The Sabrina Bridge, winner of the West Midlands Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) Small Project of the Year<\/p><\/div>\n

Sabrina Bridge in Worcester has won a top civil engineering award for improvements made as part of its major refurbishment.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The bridge was announced as the winner of the West Midlands Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) Small Project of the Year, a category for projects costing up to \u00a32 million.<\/p>\n

The major refurbishment was completed in March 2021 and included the complete replacement of the bridge-span steelwork, a brand-new composite bridge deck, repainted handrails, ramps, stairs, and main mast, and the introduction of dampers to reduce bridge movement.<\/p>\n

Councillor Alan Amos, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Highways and Transport, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was a complex project and it\u2019s fantastic to see the hard work and dedication that went into these works recognised with this award.<\/p>\n

The bridge is very well used and is an important part of the cycling and walking network in the city and I\u2019m pleased that we were able to make these improvements for everyone to enjoy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The award was presented to Worcestershire County Council, alongside project partners Alun Griffiths Ltd, Jacobs and Briton, at the awards ceremony on Thursday 5th May 2022.<\/p>\n

This prestigious award showcases the successful partnership forged between Worcestershire County Council, Jacobs, Griffiths and our supply chain.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The judges described the project as:<\/p>\n

An extremely complex structure with added risk of working over water, delivered in a collaborative manner and this is a major improvement to sustainable modes moving through Worcester.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Sabrina Bridge Project Manager said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was a pleasure to receive the ICE West Midlands winners award for the Small Project of the Year on behalf of the very many people that collaborated on this interesting and somewhat unusual project.<\/p>\n

The award recognises the innovative solution of partly re-using and upgrading the existing bridge, the complex planning and challenging execution of the on-site works, and the fantastic teamwork of the various parties working in close collaboration.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The West Midlands ICE Awards provide an opportunity to celebrate all aspects of civil engineering and are presented to the best civil engineering projects, people and ground-breaking research across Birmingham, the Black Country, Coventry, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Solihull, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire.<\/p>\n
