{"id":460,"date":"2022-01-14T13:31:29","date_gmt":"2022-01-14T13:31:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/griffiths.co.uk\/?p=460"},"modified":"2022-06-07T16:28:09","modified_gmt":"2022-06-07T16:28:09","slug":"devon-place-bridge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/griffiths.co.uk\/?p=460","title":{"rendered":"Devon Place Bridge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Griffiths are proud to be delivering the design and construction of the Devon Place Bridge on behalf of Newport City Council, following a successful ECI period. The impressive structure has been designed to provide a combined active travel route spanning over Newport Train Station. The bridge is an integral part of a wider active travel development strategy for Newport and connects the Queensway near the city centre to the residential areas surrounding Devon Place. The bridge will replace the existing subway which currently connects the two areas but only has stepped access and has also been the site of criminal activity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">During the Christmas period, Griffiths and our strategic supply chain partners successfully installed the main spans and their supports during a 54 hour closure of the tracks which started at midnight on Christmas Eve. This signifies a major milestone in the construction programme and follows months of preparation by Griffiths and our supply chain. The installation was completed within 24 hours and ahead of programme. Joanne Gossage from Newport City Council said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">Thank you so much for all the teams work on this project and especially today when the preparation and timing was so important. It has really shown you and your subcontractors in the very best light professionally. \u00a0It was great to see the parts finally lifted into place and I look forward to the project making great progress in the New Year.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">The installation works was the culmination of months of planning and construction, following commencement of foundation works in September 2021. The Project has seen the installation of 97 piles, modification of the existing Overhead Line Equipment and construction of significant temporary works to stage the bridge sections for welding\/painting prior to installation and to support the 550 tonne crane, used to install the bridge sections during the blockade. Griffiths are the Principal Designer and Principal Contractor on the Project for Newport City Council, with key stakeholders Network Rail and Transport for Wales helping to facilitate the works for the Council. The bridge has been designed by Cass Hayward and was fabricated and erected by steelwork contractor ProSteel Engineering, both companies based in South Wales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Construction works for the remainder of the bridge are ongoing with the bridge due to open later this year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Devon Place rev1.mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/666776962?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Griffiths are proud to be delivering the design and construction of the Devon Place Bridge on behalf of Newport City Council, following a successful ECI period.
