Abigail Sims, from Bristol has been named Most Promising Trainee Quantity Surveyor at the South West Training Awards run by the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA).<\/p>\n

Abbie received the accolade as a result of her achievements during a placement with Griffiths in their Regional Office in Bristol. Since joining in July 2015 she has impressed everyone and quickly played a key role in the commercial team involved in the\u00a0South Bristol Link project.<\/p>\n

The speed of Abbie\u2019s progress amazed everyone, moving from cost clerk to monthly payment applications in no time, and she quickly took on the submission of Compensation Events and sub-contractor payments. In an intensive year\u2019s placement, she was then seconded for one day a week to an even higher profile project, assisting the regional commercial manager in implementing the region\u2019s new cost control system. Her success led Griffiths to sponsor Abigail for the final year of her Quantity Surveying Commercial Management degree.<\/p>\n

The CECA South West Training Awards are presented annually to trainee civil engineers, apprentices and lifetime achievers in recognition of exceptional performance and dedication.<\/p>\n

Abbie said:<\/p>\n

I feel humbled to have won the award and am very grateful to the people at Griffiths for their support. This is a great industry with huge opportunities and I would certainly recommend it to other young women.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Dr Simon Dunn of Griffiths, commented:<\/p>\n

During her time with us, Abbie\u2019s ability, confidence and enthusiasm have enabled her to fulfil a supporting quantity surveying function to a high standard. She is keen to take on responsibilities and communicates very effectively with management and colleagues. I am confident that she will have a very bright future in construction.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Alan Taylor, Executive Director at CECA South West, <\/strong>congratulated Abbie on her achievements and Griffiths for investing in young people with such potential.<\/p>\n

He said:<\/p>\n

Abigail is a very impressive young woman and exemplifies the talent that the South West needs to nurture if we are to optimise the significant investment in infrastructure that is earmarked for the region.<\/p>\n

As she has proven, civil engineering offers a very exciting and rewarding career path for young men and women \u2013 with lots of different entry options \u2013 and I hope many more will explore the opportunities available, with the support of their parents and careers advisers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
