We have a fantastic opportunity for an Environmental Clerk of Works to be based from our Barnstable site with the flexibility and potential for some hybrid working. Due to the nature of the role, we are open to applications from candidates who live in; or can commute from some of the following areas – Cornwall, Penzance, Falmouth, Truro, Newquay, St Austell, Liskeard, Devon, Bodmin, St Mawgen, Plymouth, Plympton and the surrounding areas.

The role of Environmental Clerk of Works is a role you will be required to work Monday – Friday but with flexibility should a business need arise.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITY

The Environmental Clerk of Works report directly to the Future Generations Team will work closely with the project managers across the region. In this role you will provide advice on ecological and environmental areas during the construction phases of the project. Typical issues include protected species, pollution, surface water management, material management, air quality and noise.

Your responsibilities will include (not exhaustive):

  • Conducting ecological and habitat surveys, producing reports with recommendations for mitigation and site survey records
  • Providing continued site checks for notable and protected species prior to clearance and destructive searches
  • Monitoring sites and providing advice to the site construction teams regarding ecological constraints and mitigation solutions
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, planning conditions and associated documents (e.g. Construction Environment Management Plan – CEMP) and to help reduce risks and delays
  • Being a key point of contact for client and stakeholder relationship, working closely with staff and contractors from several disciplines, notably ecologists, hydrologists, planners and engineers, to provide an integrated ECoW service
  • Having a good understanding of wider of ECoW complex issues and the ability to liaise with other specialists and Griffiths regional Environmental Advisor to raise issues and provide solutions
  • Supervising contractors and ensuring compliance with protected species licence requirements and environmental protection measures
  • Assist in the development, review and approval process were requested of environmental risk assessments / aspects and impacts and work package plans
  • Investigate all environmental non-conformances and audit findings, making recommendations and supporting the delivery of suitable and adequate corrective and preventative actions required

You will be required to provide flexibility in this role a car / allowance is provided with this role so you must have a FULL UK manual car driving license with no more than 6 points

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The successful applicant in the role of Environmental Clerk of Works will be instrumental in the future development of the environmental and economics of our culture to achieve the benefits available through our continuous improvement strategies. You will have experience within a similar role, ideally on large civil engineering projects.

Environmental Clerk of Works – Qualifications/Requirements/Capabilities:

  • Experienced as an Ecological/Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoW), particularly on large civil engineering projects
  • Degree or Diploma in Ecology / Environmental discipline or other relevant qualification
  • Have experience of a wide range of ecological issues relating to de-vegetation works, including protected species surveys and mitigation
  • Good knowledge and experience of environmental and sustainability managements systems, such as ISO 14001, ISO50001, ISO20400, BS8001
  • Full Member of CIEEM or equivalent
  • Good cross business team working, with experience of influencing staff at all levels and being able to communicate this both written and verbally
  • Experienced in the use of Microsoft office (word, excel PowerPoint)
