Griffiths are currently looking to recruit a Highways Supervisor to join our North Wales team operating on the Isle of Anglesey.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITY

As Highways Supervisor you will play a crucial role assisting the Operational and Commercial Teams in managing, delivering and evaluating small scale civil engineering schemes and projects, routine and re-active maintenance activities and elements of emergency response operations associated with the highway network.

A requirement of this role is to be on a stand-by/call out rota to manage the attendance to emergencies and reactive work outside of normal working hours as required.

Duties Activities and Responsibilities involve:

  • Construction schemes, including widening and repairing of roads, cycleways and footways
  • Installation and repair of kerbs, edgings, block and flagged paving, street furniture signs, posts, lighting columns, bollards, fencing, barriers, ironworks, chambers, road gullies, drainage and ducts
  • Repair potholes, cracks in surfacing and maintain roadside verges
  • Site visits to gangs and subcontractors to help solve any issues and ensure that the work is being done safely, to the required standards and in accordance with the work programme and to carry out SHEQ site inspections in accordance with health & safety procedures and safe working practices
  • Provide and implement risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work
  • Prepare accurate records and valuations utilising a price list / schedule of rates of all work for submission to the commercial team for invoicing
  • Brief gangs daily and via regular tool box talks and safety briefings, ensuring PPE is adhered to correctly

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Previous experience required of managing/supervising direct workforce or subcontractors
  • Willingness and commitment to work out of normal working hours as part of a rota system in all seasons
  • NVQ level 4 in civil engineering minimum or a willingness and commitment to train for this qualification
  • Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) or a willingness and commitment to train for this qualification
  • NRSWA Supervisor. Signing, guarding excavation and reinstatement or a willingness and commitment to train for this qualification
  • Commercially aware with the ability to measure, evaluate and cost work
