The latest successes add to a growing list of national industry awards for the landmark scheme, which has already received the prestigious NEC Martin Barnes – Future-Focused Collaboration Award, and the NCE Airports Transport Integration Award.
Delivered by Griffiths Farrans JV on behalf of Bristol Airport, the £60 million Public Transport Interchange forms a key part of the airport’s wider £400 million transformation programme and represents one of the South West’s most significant transport infrastructure projects in recent years. The scheme was completed ahead of programme and has transformed sustainable travel access to and from the airport.
The development includes a new 16-bay public transport interchange, an additional multi-storey car park, a glazed pedestrian bridge linking parking facilities directly to the terminal, enhanced passenger waiting facilities, improved accessibility, and expanded drop-off and pick-up areas. The interchange is designed to accommodate around 250 bus and coach movements per day, significantly increasing capacity and improving the passenger experience.
The Construction Excellence South West judges recognised not only the project’s technical delivery, but also the exceptional standards achieved in health, safety and wellbeing and the strong collaborative approach adopted throughout the programme. Working within a live operational airport environment, Bristol Airport, Griffiths Farrans JV and the wider supply chain developed a highly integrated delivery model that enabled innovation, effective stakeholder engagement and successful project outcomes.
The project has also delivered significant social and environmental benefits. During construction, it supported 120 on-site jobs at peak, created more than 60 new roles, provided apprenticeship and T Level opportunities, and generated substantial local economic value through the use of regional suppliers. Sustainability initiatives included the reuse of more than 100,000 tonnes of material on site and high levels of construction waste recycling.

The project’s award journey is not over yet. The Bristol Airport Public Transport Interchange has also been shortlisted for the ICE South West People’s Choice Award 2026, giving members of the public the opportunity to recognise one of the region’s most transformative infrastructure projects.
